Carolina Reaper, also known as HP22B, is a hybrid of Naga Bhut Jolokia and Habanero Red peppers, grown by Ed Currie in South Carolina in 2012. In 2013, this pepper was listed in the Guinness Book of Records as the hottest pepper in the world with a heat rating of 2,200,000 SHU. This pushed the previously hottest pepper, the Trinidad Scorpion Moruga, with a heat rating of 2,009,231 SHU, into second place.
